My sister told me this morning that they're calling "the evil cold that will not die" The Queen's Cold. This is because poor Queenie was so sick over the Christmas period that she had to miss church and lots of other public duties. You know what, I really don't blame her. I for one wouldn't want to get all gussied up in my finery, wearing my best hat, just so you could go and cough and splutter all over everyone. Plus, she's like 90 and this evil cold makes you feel like crap at 41 so I would imagine by 90 you probably just want to stay in bed in your flannelette nightie. Get better soon, Ma'am.
My sister also told me it lasts for 3 weeks. There is not an emoji in the world that conveys my reaction to this information. Cheers, sister dearest.
Coughing, sneezing, whole body hurting, and repeat for the full day.
We ended up getting Domino's cos neither of us could muster the energy to actually create anything in the kitchen that would be edible.
The whole household are now incredibly sleepy and might as well just declare it bed time. Here's hoping for a better day tomorrow. Nite nite.

On Friday we try...
That should actually read Friday was trying. I'm so bummed that I'm starting out my year of blogging in this negative nelly state but this EVIL COLD THAT WILL NOT DIE is really getting me down. And anyone who knows me in real life knows this is so not me. I felt so rubbish about it all today that I almost started crying on the way back to my car tonight. This is not a good way to start 2017. Good job I didn't go into it with all these resolutions and positive sunbeams shining out of my arse type posts, eh?
So yep, today sucked. Big style.
I came home, I may have ranted about it for a good ten minutes. Not proud.
We decided to go and get fish and chips for tea, at the beach, in the dark. Call me a weirdo but this actually made me feel tonnes better!
Now I just need to actually feel physically better. I can honestly say, that I haven't felt this rubbish since I had shingles a couple of years ago. As Dave commented the other day, it's really knocked you for six this one. This is a very northern saying but pretty much sums up how it has affected me - I look like death warmed up, I FEEL like death warmed up and every time I cough my whole body hurts, which is quite a lot of the time. Ho flippin' hum. You, evil cold, are an evil bastard (excuse my swearing) and it's about time you effed the off out of my body! Rah rah rah!
Sunbeams shining out of my arse time? At least it's the weekend! Woop woop!

Evil cold vs evil week
I've got two options for today: either I tell you about the evil cold that WILL NOT DIE but this will involve a whole lot of moaning about how all I do is cough cough cough and sniff sniff sniff, or I tell you about my evil work week which has mainly involved a significant number of complaints and me wanting to bang my head against my desk repeatedly. The trouble is neither of these things are particularly appealing. Tricky.
I could tell you about the party instead! So much more interesting. So Dave is going to be really old next week, like properly old, and in order to celebrate we're having a little family gathering. I can't say too much as I know that he reads the blog and I don't want to give away all the good stuff, but suffice it to say there is a whole heap of exciting stuff going on and I'm starting to get really excited now! Mainly for the balloons (I can safely write about this as he knows there will be balloons) cos I love balloons! Love them! And I'm going to get those massive number ones that might not even fit in my car - yasssssss!
Balloons for life!
Evil cold begone!
Evil week can do one at the same time!
Over and out.

Bookshelf: 3 giants!
I'm not calling this a challenge as such, but I decided that this year I have to read these three books:
Partly I think it's because I actually bought them. New. They're not out of the library, they're not borrowed from anyone else, they're brand spanking shiny and new. And all very large. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a little bit intimidated by them. Also very indecisive - I can't choose which one to tackle first!
I picked up the Kate Atkinson and the Donna Tartt in one single shop - I know! What was I thinking? Other than being massively swayed by the fact that I have loved every other book that both have written, of course.
As for the third, I've seen/read/heard very good things about it and decided to give it a try. Without realising quite how large it is. Maybe people who recommended it read it on Kindle so it didn't seem quite as...hefty?
Anyway, decisions decisions. I tried putting it out on social media to see which might get the most votes but the comments are all over the place too! Maybe the best way will be to mix them up, close my eyes and just pick one!
I'll keep you posted...

Working girl
Wow that 6.30 alarm was HARD! Especially when I'd woken myself up just an hour or so before with the strange rattling noise coming from my body which has something to do with the cough/cold of doom, but I did it! I dragged myself out of bed and set about the day.
A beautiful but challenging walk in the frosty, sparkly streets. That dog will pull...and we live on the top of a bank...which means walking down the bank...and fear of falling over - eep. No falling today.
Work. Cough. Work. Cough. You can see where this is going.
Two people asked me if I was okay. Like are you really okay? One of them was my big boss. I said it sounded worse. Truth.
Went out for lunch and ate stupid amounts of pastry. Not so good, but the tarte was very fine! Pats self on back, I have prepared my lunch for tomorrow already. What? Who am I?
A dreamy sunset over the skies of Boro that was absolutely worth leaving the office for without a coat or a cardigan...
A food shopping trip from hell as I did the shop, cough, shop, cough thing. All the while pulling up my tights that have been falling down all day. Valuable life lesson: tumble dryers and tights do not mix. You're welcome.
Tonight we're off to theatre. And so it begins.
Cough, cough, cough.
Over and out.

Packing away Christmas / tidying and sorting
Back to work tomorrow - boooo! But I think one of the easiest ways to ease yourself back in is to have Christmas all packed away, even though the house looks so bare and sorry for itself when all the decorations come down. It took us most of the morning but by lunchtime we were all done. The walls in the hall have seriously suffered from where we stuck the cards up, oopsy, but we have big plans this year and the hall is the first in the big plans so those marks will be gone, sometime very soon hopefully! Super organised, we even remembered to pack away the outside lights - yay! And, the best thing of all, the boxes are back up in the attic too - woop! *pats self on back*
Devil's cold upate: still coughing, still sneezing, can't seem to do too much or I have to sit down and wheeze a few times. Great start to the new year...having said that if I see one more thing talking about "eating clean" I might just up-chuck all my snot all over. I hate the phrase clean eating, as it basically implies that if you eat any other way then you are clearly a filthy, dirty food monster who will implode and take down the health service with you as you go with all your demands. What's wrong with saying that you are eating well - making sure that you get a good balance of all the necessary things, doing your best to squeeze your 5-a-day in and not judging on anyone if they take some time to enjoy some cake and a hot chocolate here and there. I think that right there is balance, just saying.
Moving back on track...
Once the tree came down, there was some sort of idea of tidying and sorting up the dreaded wooden drawers. These drawers become magnets for everything that we don't have a home for and eventually they overflow, we end up with too much of something we don't need (7 rolls of sellotape?!), stuff gets bought, can't be used and then receipts are lost and can never be returned or exchanged, it's like hoarders corner! So I did some tidying. And sorting. I found lots of money in strange currencies and about a zillion tiny euro coins that might actually amount to enough for a baguette and a few macarons if we ever get to go to France this year (cross everything!) It's like Spring came early or something with all this cleaning! I'm not quite sure what's come over me!
One last evening of dossing about and doing nothing before the work thing starts all over again. Ho hum. I'm trying really hard to embrace the idea of new year, new opportunities, new exciting things...but being lazy is sooooo nice!
More worryingly, Dave is cough-cough-coughing. Let us hope this isn't leading to the devil's cold. One person with said cold is bad enough, but two? A plague on both your houses! Or both your heads, as it were.

One!
Starting with the obvious - Happy New Year! I hope your new year was fabulous and sparkly and all kinds of fun!
Mine was sneezing. And coughing. I sneezed so violently it went on my shirt. And I'm pretty sure that after wiping my nose I managed to wipe it all over my face too. Yeah, that was not such a sexy moment...I was in bed by 10pm and didn't even wish Dave a happy new year until I woke up this morning. In a different bed because I don't want him to catch this awful cold.
Day one - welcome to reality! Ha! If we're going to do this one year, one blog a day thing, I can already tell you that there will be reality in there. It won't all be glamour and sparkles you know!
Today has mainly involved lazing on the sofa, with occasional movement towards the kitchen for more snacks. I briefly (finally!) went and moved the plants out of the bath that have been there for about a week, declared one of them totally dead (may he rest) and then promptly went back to the sofa cos it had all just been a bit much. I'm wearing no make up, even my hair looks ill, it's definitely not going to be one of my ten best days in terms of style.
But we're here.
Day one.
The congestion is slowly starting to clear, or is that just the drugs?
I have no idea if this insane idea I came up with the other night will actually happen. I'm pretty certain that there will be days when the blog will be the last thing on my mind, but at the moment I'm really feeling it! I hope you'll join me for the journey. It would be fabulous if we met a few new people along the way so feel free to share it with friends...I have even considered tweeting a link...too much? Too scary more like!
I've decided to label it as "year in the life."
Onwards and upwards! Same time tomorrow...?
